Why is MotoGP the bad copy of F1 even though it could be better?

F1GP2

For an organization that claims to be inspired by F1, MotoGP is not offering a good show.

At the moment, the main theme is to determine the value of the Valentino Rossi asset and to quantify losses and related countermeasures following his farewell. Not a good approach. An organization must not renounce its past assets but neither cannot admit to relying on them.

No credible sports organization can admit that it is in trouble for the loss of a champion, especially if the champion in question is representative from the point of view of the image and not from the sporting one.
In doing so, Dorna admits that it is more memories than facts, more affection than technique and more smoke than roast. If Dorna says that it will miss a rider who hasn't won a world championship for 12 years and a race for 3 because the audience will drop, it offends itself and those who work there, downgrading its audience from competent to merch collector. Not even World Wrestling Entertainment, 95% entertainment and 5% sports content would ever admit such a thing. Dorna, on the other hand, does it, showing to believe in a retired rider more than in those who still race.
And this is only the self-diagnosed part of the disease.

Then there is another, objective and therefore even more cruel.
Still comparing it to F1, MotoGP is Neanderthal.

Technically, an F1 car looks like a road car the same way a man looks like a monkey.
The other car categories are also separated from F1 by light years of technology and performance. Ask anyone to pick an F1 from 10 different car types. Easy.

This is not the case with motorcycles and over time there is less and less difference.
No car category is remotely comparable to F1 while Superbike is however, albeit forcedly, comparable to its corresponding prototypes. And this despite a political aberration, namely the belonging of MotoGP and WSBK to the same organizer.
Instead of managing it effectively Dorna has chosen to impoverish SBK and evolve MotoGP in a direction that is only dangerous. With motorcycles there is only confusion. Ask an average fan to identify a MotoGP versus an SBK. Ask about the differences between the two championships.

For the rest, people continue to die on the bike and still get hurt a lot.
Motorcycles have evolved in terms of peak performance more than they have evolved in driveability. Arriving on the straight at 350kmh is of no use to the show if the rider becomes a passenger on his bike and if the straight is more dangerous than the cornering. It is not Dorna’s fault if you get hurt more on the bike than in the car but it is Dorna’s fault if there are price caps in the prototypes while in the derivatives, in practice, there are not and if SBK is nothing more than a poor MotoGP without any financial support for the teams.
In prototypes, research should be a free choice. There is no doctor of economics who prescribes racing to those who cannot afford it. It is not by increasing the grid of pawns in the midst of four rich competitors that you put up the show. If investments were truly free, surely the manufacturers would engage in more complex things than going fast on the straight and even motorcycling would have its kers and all the real technical evolutions that are in cars. Two plastic wings are not technology if young riders die every year.

Then there is the view to the future. In cars, Formula E is an independent championship from F1 and is preparing to be an alternative in any case. It communicates innovation and truly represents electric motoring with real brands making serious efforts and frightening technical innovations to be found in dealerships the following year.
In motorcycles, the MotoE is yet another championship controlled by Dorna. For two years it was a ridiculous category with heavy, slow bikes and a skimpy championship with fewer dates than a trophy.

And finally, the most obvious problem: sponsors.
In Formula 1 there is the top for the championship and for the teams. Amazing brands that everyone knows.
For the MotoGP we challenge you to list 5 companies known to the general public, when they do not arrest someone or there is some scam like the one of which Valentino Rossi’s team was the victim, who dealt with a non-existent prince for 8 months and a fake architect sponsoring a company that didn’t exist, Tanal, and an oil firm, Aramco, who denied it from day one. The press ignored it. In motorcycles, even the press is funny and is made up of puppets.

Here is the value of Motogp: Valentino Rossi’s team, declared as the main historical asset, in 8 months could not find a sponsor and it was necessary for Rossi, who had declared that the team was not his problem, to return on field personally, in order to find last minute money which, however, also supports him in cars and forces him to stay in the marketing game.
MotoGP alone just can’t do it.

If that’s not a problem …

Yet, if only MotoGP were naturally itself, it would be the best sport in the world ...

No credible sports organization can admit that it is struggling with the loss of one of its champions, especially if the champion in question is representative from an image standpoint and not from a sports standpoint.
In doing so, Dorna admits to being more memories than facts, more affection than technique, and more smoke than fire. If it says it will miss a rider who hasn't won a world championship in 12 years and a race in 3 because viewership will drop, it offends itself and those who work in it, downgrading its audience from knowledgeable to knitters. Not even World Wrestling Entertainment, 95% entertainment and 5% sports content would ever admit such a thing. Instead, Dorna does, showing that it believes in a retired rider more than it believes in those still racing.
And this is just the self-diagnosed part of the disease.

From a technical point of view, an F1 car resembles a street car as a man resembles a monkey.
Even the other car categories are separated from F1 by light years of technology and performance. Ask anyone to name one F1 car among 10 different types of cars. Easy.

Then there is the look to the future. In cars, Formula E is a championship independent of F1 and is poised to be an alternative anyway. It communicates innovation and truly represents electric motoring with real manufacturers getting serious about it and scary technical innovations to be found in dealerships the following year.
In motorcycles, MotoE is yet another championship controlled by Dorna. For two years it has been a ridiculous category with heavy, slow bikes and a skimpy championship with fewer dates than a trophy.

And finally, the most obvious problem, that of sponsors.
In Formula 1 there is the top for the championship and for the teams. Crazy brands that everyone knows.

MotoGP, on its own, just can't do it.

Ducati MotoE

Win on sunday, sell on monday (Vinci la domenica e vendi il lunedì).

Vista. Bellissima. Come va?

Superbike, Mandalika: impianto incompleto e marshall presi fra i contadini espropriati. Responsabile licenziato causa insulti!

Safety car mandalika

Petronas Repsol and Aramco? No war between oilmen, no pressure. They will easily agree!

Oil

When I was in the Navy I learned that a drop of oil can pollute the entire water supply of a ship.
It’s one of the first things they tell you. And there is no way to remedy it. The water is no longer drinkable.
For news mixed with bullshit there is the same risk even if you can always try to separate one from the other.

Going by order, the story that Petronas would have left Yamaha and MotoGP due to the quarrels between a woman and Razali, is bullshit.
Maybe this also happened, but the reason why Petronas gave up Yamaha is another.
Until things went well and Petronas fought for the world championship with Morbidelli and showed results worthy of the brand, similar to those of F1, everything went smoothly. After all, the declarations at the end 2020 were belligerent.
But the second season was very far from expectations.
Even Walkabout Oil would have been dissatisfied with the fact that a lot of negative visibility was created around a project that went so badly that it had an anti overexposure. It is the truth. Rossi and Morbidelli, the all-time champion and the world runner-up: a disaster.
Razali paid for this and it is evident that while all this was happening he may also have had some trouble with some connecting element of the sponsor company. No wonder, but that was a consequence, not a cause. Clearly Razali can't go around saying that he argued with Petronas because his team's was indecent and he handled things badly.

It is not true that Petronas has left MotoGP, and it is also not true that he is rushing en masse with his management to Portimao to finish a mega
agreement. Petronas is already the official supplier of Moto2 and Moto3 and therefore on the verge of a renewal.

It’s also not true that Petronas is putting pressure on Honda to give his money away. Never happened that a sponsor puts pressure to sponsor someone because it would mean playing up against itself. And then there is still Repsol. Market competition is okay but there is a gentlemen agreement between oilmen.

The truth is that Repsol, a company with almost local interests (Iberian peninsula and a bit of South America) and three times smaller than Petronas, is out in MotoGP and in the Trial, where it sponsors, once again, Spanish companies.
According to some rumors, he also tried to renegotiate the contract with HRC, but that is not exactly the problem.
Repsol’s business plans reflect the European situation. Many car manufacturers will soon no longer produce thermal engines, in some countries they will not even be on sale soon, and therefore Repsol, which sells fuels in Europe with 6000 service stations and 5 refineries all in Spain, has different prices. Electricity, biofuels, etc. Repsol is about to do exactly like Total Elf. This starts as early as 2050. It seems far away but there are fewer seasons to go than we think about the technical deadline. Industrial reconversions and budgets come a long time in advance, and so do the company strategies.

It is not true that Asian oilmen and Arabs land en masse for some mysterious reason. Asians and Arabs land en masse because it is from them that oil is sold and in fact, someone will have noticed, the championships are moving eastwards even physically.

In a world of scarcely credible sponsors based on scarcely credible projects and increasingly linked to suspicious maneuvers, we end up marveling at those who do things according to market logic.

Why should a local company like Repsol continue to promote its image as an oil tanker in a Europe that has declared war on oil?
At the right times the big farewell will finally happen.
Why shouldn’t Arabs and Asians arrive in MotoGP and F1 given that we are racing more and more eastwards, including Saudi Arabia, and fossil fuels are still being sold in the east?
One should be surprised at the contrary.

And if anyone wants some numerical details and some more data, well just consult Decalspotters

As for the partnership between Honda and Petronas, if Repsol were to come out, it could also happen.
There is no story other than inventing one to click, because there is no struggle when there are different interests.
The real struggle is not about who to sponsor, but about what and for which market.
Honda HRC is very important, but only with a fit Marquez.
Dorna’s sponsorship is very important, but only if it concerns the championship as a whole.
A little less so is some other second tier teams, such as VR46.
There is no pressure, no struggle. There has never been a fight to give money to those in need like Dorna and the MotoGP teams.

Among oilmen, they will all come to an agreement sharing the cake, like almost friends.

Petronas Repsol e Aramco? Nessuna guerra fra petrolieri, nessuna pressione. Si metteranno facilmente d’accordo!

Oil

When I was in the Navy, I learned that one drop of oil is capable of polluting the entire water supply of a ship.
That's one of the first things they tell you. And there is no way to remedy it. The water is no longer potable.
For news mixed with bullshit there is this risk although you can always try to separate one from the other.

Going in order, the story that Petronas would leave Yamaha and MotoGP because of arguments between a woman and Razali is bullshit.
Maybe that happened too, but the reason why Petronas quit Yamaha, is something else.
As long as things went well and Petronas played for the world championship with Morbidelli and showed results worthy of the brand, similar to F1, everything went smoothly. After all, the statements at the end of 2020 were belligerent.
But the second season fell far short of expectations.
Even Viterbese Petroli would have been displeased with the fact that a lot of negative visibility was created around a project that went so badly that it had anti overexposure. It's the truth. Rossi and Morbidelli, the all-time champion and the vice world champion: a disaster.
He paid Razali and it is clear that while all this was going on he may also have had some spat with some connecting element of the sponsoring company. No wonder, but that was a consequence, not a cause. Clearly Razali can't go around saying that he argued with Petronas because his team's performance was indecent and he mismanaged things.

It is also not true that Petronas is putting pressure on Honda to give it its money. You have never seen a sponsor putting pressure to sponsor anyone because it would mean playing upward against itself. And then there is still Repsol. Okay market competition but there is a gentlemen's agreement between Oilers.

Among oilmen, they will all agree by sharing the pie, as almost friends.

SKY renews and saves VR46 and WithU. Yamaha saves SRT. Here's how Valentino comes out of the debacle with Tanal!

Marini VR46

As we approach the third deadline for payment by Tanal, we are talking about August 31, the day of confrontation of the four ministries, and His Royal Highness Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Saud bin AbdulAziz Al Saud through his emissary Architect Marco Bernardini, the game is getting tough and dangerous for the VR46 team, which, however, it is now certain, has its Plan B, which is nothing but Plan A prior to the arrival of the Prince, namely the involvement of current sponsors with an increase in Budget.
So the team will be done 100 percent, no doubt about it.

IsWithU really that impoertant?
WithU is the main topic of discussion and the doubt should be revealed in Misano yet as of today it is not so important.
Many give the energy company all over the place but with a profit of 1.42 million euros, it is unlikely to have the ability to sponsor everyone with a massive budget
According to some it should support the former Petronas team and Dovizioso while according to others it should follow VR46.

According to our information, WithU came to Petronas thanks to VR46 because of Morbidelli.
WithU was interested in an ITALIAN rider belonging to the Academy.
WithU and Morbidelli would then arrive together on thePetronas Yamaha .

What will SRT do?
The SRT team is an endangered team.
Currently no one on the team has a contract beyond the expiration date. In 2022 there will be a company run by Stigefelt and Razali. Of Razali not much is known while Stigefelt, before Petronas has a past in Superbike with the Honda set up by Oral, with whom he experienced dark moments.
In these years of lavish Petronas sponsorship, the accounts may be back on track, but without the Malaysians, in a twisted scenario, the team would not stand. SRT's fate is all to be decided.

Yamaha 's help tastes like gratitude
Yamaha factory was forced to take charge of a delicate situation by putting Dovizioso under contract.
Over the years the SRT team, thanks to Petronas, was a cash cow, but now it is time to rescue it .
The factory team, in fact, owes a big debt to SRT since Stigefelt and Razali 's team raised Quartararo and Morbidelli, who were so good that they deserved the factory bike with a real chance (for Quartararo) to win the world championship as well.
This evolution is not due to Jarvis's policy but to Petronas 's choices that may now be rewarded.
The Japanese, albeit late as usual, would understand that SRT must be saved and that it is time to repair the broken toy that has brought so many benefits.

This is while waiting for the immediate problem to be solved that would allow the Stigefelt bikes to be quietly fielded.
Yamaha, which found itself in an unexpected situation, would still have a chance to get out of the problem.
The next few years, of course, are another matter.

The VR46 situation
How exactly he will want to handle the VR46 situation is unclear.
In addition to publicly saying goodbye to Prince, talking about a tight timetable or admitting to a blunder, there is the issue of riders.
Marini is taken for granted but has not yet been officially announced. Bezzecchi is speculated but he has not been confirmed either, with the addition that it is obvious that there is no SRT offer for him anymore. Stigefelt and Razali 's good bike will go to Dovizioso and therefore Bezzecchi must be lined up with VR46 at all costs.

Silverstone: Quartararo gets his hands on the world championship, Rins returns but it's Espargaro who makes Noale roar!

Aleix Espargaro

It is not fair to steal the cover from a winner but the Noale lion roaring back is an Italian masterpiece that in England, for those who love motorcycling, is worth a European, an Olympic gold, a landing of Julius Caesar.
Okay, back in the ranks but it is a duty to highlight a podium that did not come fortuitously but was, instead, built and earned.
On the day of Quartararo putting two hands on the world championship, there is finally the return of Rins and the podium we have already talked about.
Finally in Silverstone, aend of surprises, there is also the return of Honda, brilliant, if only at times, with Marquez, but concrete only with Pol Espargaro.
It is the race in which six different manufacturers place the first six bikes. Oh yes, because at Silverstone KTM also does well, putting three in the ten. Minicrollo for Ducati but at least there is Miller. The MotoGP we like is this one.

Minicronaca
A meno 11 Quartararo, Aleix Espargaro, Rins, Pol Espargaro, Mir, Miller, Bagnaia, Alex Marquez, Rossi e Nakagami a chiudere i dieci.
Quartararo, Rins, Aleix Espargaro, Miller, Pol Espargaro, Binder, Lecuona, Alex marquez, Mir, Petrucci a chiudere i 10.

Quartararo
He doesn't make any mistakes. He waits for what is right and takes what is his.
He is the strongest man at the moment. And his hands are on the world championship.
Rated 10

Rins
Rediscovered champion. It was a pain to read his explanations of the endless races gone wrong. He also shreds his partner. That's what he needed.
Rated 9.5

Aleix Espargaro
He has always talked a lot, some say too much. But it is only fitting that he is the one who has takenAprilia into history with a podium that he earned 110 percent. Aleix has always said great things about Aprilia and has always believed in himself and his team. Aleix, in a world of ultra-mercenaries, is someone to love. How he sweeps away preconceptions, no one today.
Rated 9.5

Miller
He fights like a lion but the lion, at least today, is theAprilia.
Still positive race for him. Too bad about the late awakening.
Rated 9

Pol Espargaro
The start bodes well, then mistakes and the collapse. But there is much to rejoice about, nonetheless.
Rated 8

Binder
Voto 8

Lecuona
Indemoniato. Fa anche belle cose. E le fa fino all’ultimo giro.
Voto 7,5

Alex Marquez
He is the sage of the family. He shows that with calmness, good things can be achieved.
Rated 7

Mir
Debacle. He makes sparks at the beginning of the race to the point of dreaming of the podium but then ... today he is not in charge at home.
Rating 6

Petrucci
Gets a bittersweet top ten. He does well and even has a final flicker.

VR46, the Prince's press conference: 90 million arrive by hot air balloon!

Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Saud

My positions on the Vr46 issue are well known. I have expressed them in a video and several articles or posts. And you can read the main articles here.

Fixers, princes, oilmen and "suspicious" companies: is someone exploiting VR46 and Valentino without their knowledge? New releases do not convince!

Team VR46: Ducati rumors worried about possible cheating. Wednesday a rescue press conference?

VR46: without Arabs or oilers, what's next? More importantly, when? And who pays?

I have many doubts and have documented them all.
Despite the fact that I have, unlike others, explained all my reasons, and perhaps because of that, I have been ignored, then belittled, attacked and insulted. How I could be the obstacle toward a partnership in which every day people believe less and less but do not want to admit it.

I write because of the love I have for motorsports and the fear that some small operator will be harmed by what I believe is a hoax.
I don't know if there are scammers. There is certainly a lot of amateurism and naiveté. The most dangerous ingredients when it comes to money.

Only a naive person does not detect anomalies bordering on the absurd in this whole story and, even more so, in the Prince's latest press conference with a small number of journalists and two staffers.

The idea we got was that the press conference served to show that there is a prince. Because this thing had been questioned and because, according to some, it would be enough to show a person in a robe to legitimize everything. Because after all, in the wake of the other statements, they thought that just as it was to be considered impossible for all these initiatives to be doubted, it would be equally impossible to be able to doubt a prince after seeing him, albeit in the grainy mode of a poorly organized conference call.

Instead, according to the writer, and unfortunately according to really few others (only Massimo Calandri of Repubblica expressed marked misgivings), it did not go very well.

The people who "ran" the conference do not have the credibility needed for an operation of the level they want people to believe they have.

"Before the prince enters," began Architect Bernardini (who is not an architect), getting the first of a few conjunctives wrong in his opening. An architect who speaks French poorly, English almost not at all, and gets Latin quotations wrong (the Errata "Corrìgge" requested on the phone still rumbles in my head) and Italian subjunctives wrong. One who confuses Overseas with Oversize already speaks volumes.

On the prince, doubts grow. He doesn't look much like the one in Wikipedia and, more importantly, despite having studied in the UK, so the encyclopedia says, he speaks English poorly. The French, on the other hand, is that of the North Africans who used to come and buy boats and engines from my grandfather, a fishing boat broker in Molfetta, who used to introduce me to these characters who, when they go abroad, dress up as Arabs to have more credibility, but are instead Maghrebi.
Some connection with the Korean Moroccan Holding Group also run by Bernardini would come naturally, but let's leave it at that, as there are far greater doubts.

The background of the press conference, of which we have managed to get both audio and video and are proving it to you with details, may be that of the summer residence, but we an austerity of this level we have not seen even in a massage parlor (don't ask us where this analogy comes from).
Does anyone tell us that this gentleman, with a mini PC on his lap (he has no conference hall screen), who is supposed to be a graduate of a prestigious European university with a past as a minister is the real prince? All right. At this point we are sorry that he is letting his representative answer the questions. And that he either doesn't know the numbers of his initiatives or shoots them off the top of his head (the figures reported are at the level of Microsoft, Google and Facebook). Not to mention Tanal who obviously does everything while being nowhere, proof of nothing.

The head of a private fund that is about to spend a billion openly declares that they made a mistake in setting up the operation that should be communicated first in Saudi Arabia than abroad. They would like to build cities, parks, racetracks, cars and motorcycles, but they do not know that communiqués should be issued internally first. Yet in the Saudi press NOTHING EXISTS ABOUT TANAL'S ACTIVITIES. Tanal is never mentioned except when talking about a neighborhood of houses in Rhyad. Amateurism.
Tanal does not exist except in communiqués bounced around on the two-wheeler sites and elsewhere, which published everything they received, without ever verifying it, and making it superficially credible thanks to a link popularity in which they were complicit.

Who knows why, on the other hand, at the same time, another private Saudi fund, PIF, acquired Pagani Automobili without warning anyone at all, yet communicating, when it was done, shareholders (complete with % details), banks involved, board of advisors, law firms and corporate offices.
So on the one hand we have UBS Investment Bank as Pagani's exclusive financial advisor, Withers Studio Legale as legal advisor to the selling shareholders, Rothschild & Co and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer as financial advisors and legal advisors to the fund.
On the other hand, we have Bernardini, Arianna Pasquale, who has no experience in communications with international agencies, Uccio Salucci, Alberto Tebaldi, and Giampiero Sacchi, team manager of the bankrupt Ioda Racing who accompanied them all to Carmelo Ezpeleta.
Neither is a guarantor bank or lawyers. Almost the same.

There is talk of 18 million for 5 years and it is not clear who, how, when and by what means will pay.
I bought cars with more paperwork and people involved.
To the timid questions, the trio raises again and displaces with a hypothetical sponsorship, also for Dorna. It is one of the clichés that has been going on since April.

The plans laid out in the clumsiest press conference of all time, with journalists afraid to do their jobs lest they discover something they don't like and lecturers left galloping in the pastures of fantasy, are the same as the surreal releases already issued in the past.
The ones that had alerted us, to be clear. And now more details further alarm us.

200 million is for car and motorcycle factories. Cars and motorcycles that, perhaps the prince does not know, would become the first case of automotive production in Arab countries.
And the prince does not wonder why there is no precedent for this. But the prince's family, moderate motorcyclists who used to race but now go slow, "has been importing Moto Guzzis, Ferraris, Autobianchi and Lancias to Saudi Arabia for years." A gluttonous detail to be written in the newspapers, which is therefore necessarily likely and yet not true, because Autobianchi and Lancia in Saudi Arabia have never been imported, and Ferraris come from the Emirates where the importer is Al Tayer. Go ahead and explain this one to us as well.

For that matter, given the little resistance of cross-examination, even on the Aramco issue, which is dismissed with "we said we weren't talking about it," the revival has been freewheeling.

The interest in motorsports of previous releases and statements becomes, during the press conference, the purchase of the Modena circuit in addition to the construction of a test track in Saudi Arabia.

The love of motorsport, becomes the purchase of an F1 team, but without specifying what that might be.

"The organization of an international hot air balloon championship called the Ambassador Cup that in the various press releases was never announced because in the last two months we have read all about it," says the architect.

We read them, but someone wrote them down.
Not to mention that the Balloon Ambassador Cup, to be held, we imagine, in Umbria, already exists under another name.
It is called the Sagrantino Cup, has been held in Todi since 34 Lanni, and is organized by British aeronaut Ralph Shaw.
The photos shown at the press conference are taken right from the Umbro event website. I wonder what Shaw thinks of it.

Sagrantino Cup
Sagrantino Cup

This fixation on Umbria and on borrowing, making them one's own, from projects that already exist is a leitmotif we have reported on before.
On a venue, an idea, an event, you put the Tanal brand, Photoshop is fine, and launch into the future. The list is long. Newspapers write confidently, and the media tamtam is created that determines a credibility with which to present oneself.

But sooner or later it has to be paid.
The money is expected on Wednesday, so we will see if it is all as they say, despite the ministerial traffic light system that has been postponing for months the agreement that is declared as signed but without any handouts (another mystery).
But even if the money were real, someone has to explain why all these false credentials, bogus locations, projects that do not exist, made-up numbers and a Prince who is not informed about anything he is about to invest in, assisted by a structure that, in practice, does not exist and does not resemble anything that is put up in these cases.

And in any case, it is not true that if the money comes in everything is fine.
In the first place there must be transparency and traceability.
If not, we could partner with anyone, including states that continually violate human rights at every level.
But maybe this someone is already willing to do that.
And they like the idea so much that nothing else matters and everything seems normal.

Team VR46: Ducati rumors worried about possible cheating. Wednesday a rescue press conference?

Ciabatti and Domenicali

The rumors emerging are that of a Ducati worried about the VR46 affair.
A Ducati now convinced of the deception by dl Tanal who is not there, Aramco who called off from day one, and the princes who do not appear. Not to mention the architects who are not architects and have gone, also, into hiding with the whole package. At least that's the way it appears.

5 million for an official team, is not enough and therefore it remains to be understood, even assuming that we are willing and able to give up something, whether sponsors will be "recovered" by Dorna or a reshuffle will be made from what currently feeds the coffers of the VR46 teams. We are of course talking about SKY, WithU etc.
