Many attendees but mostly many notable absences at the presentation of the Yamaha WithU team in Razali
Beautiful was the presentation of the Yamha WithU team in the beautiful setting, as they always say, of the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, a heartbreaking city that makes every event a winner because it is one of the most beautiful settings in the world.
A MotoGP in Piazza Bra is a win win situation, and the visuals won out over everything, of course combined with the operatic performances, perfectly in tone with the location.
Perhaps the most elegant MotoGP presentation in recent years.
Technically the Youtube live went jerky for almost all viewers while the zoom link did not go live, at least to yours truly. We had a password and a code and so perhaps the press (not just me), perhaps would have expected the ability to ask questions. But that's not important because the Razali team has proven, so far, to have some of the most responsive and helpful press office in history.
What surprised me, however, was an unprecedented element, namely the absences. I can understand that because of regulations against Covid-19 other elements of the team were missing, but not a single Japanese rider was seen.
This is the first time that a team fielding a (Japanese) bike and an official rider (Andrea Dovizioso) has not seen the presence of a Japanese to represent the brand.
It is an established practice, practically a rule.
In fact, in truth, the more Japanese there are, the more there is the imprimatur of the company.
This is important for us and vital for Asians.
Even the presence of Paolo Pavesio, who is Italian but is the n2 of Yamaha Europe, would have sufficed.
Also noisily absent was Lin Jarvis, who at least could have made a video connection.
Bradley Smith did but not the Dutch manager, who also is the one who pays for Razali 's bikes and has decided, in recent years, the riders of Yamaha's only customer team.
The press office assured us that it was not a surprise but that it was all planned, which makes me wonder even more.
Let's not draw conclusions here otherwise we are being too nitpicky.
Let everyone make their own assessments about the fact that no one from Yamaha showed up at the presentation of an official bike and rider.
